Get Real with a Redster: Katherine Kostiuk

Meet the senior account executive who loves “Gilmore Girls” and teaching old dogs new tricks

Hometown

Born and raised in Pittsburgh, PA! I’m a South Hills girl and grew up in Mt. Lebanon.

Currently reside in

Another area of Pittsburgh, Brookline! Brookline is such a fun area of the South Hills, and I love living here.

Favorite current hobby

I’m a huge fan of makeup and different makeup brands so I like to create some makeup videos and review makeup products. Otherwise, I’ll be honest, saying “watching TV” as a hobby sounds like I am perpetually stuck on my couch with snacks watching shows, which…I am. So. Watching TV. I love movies and TV and yelling at my friends to watch shows I just finished so we can talk about them — that is, when I’m not rewatching “Gilmore Girls” for the 17,080th time.

If you could start a movement, what would it be?

This is a movement that already exists, but I would love to start or expand on a Saving Senior Dogs movement. I love all dogs of any age and I know that there are many sitting in shelters all over the country. Senior dogs, unfortunately, are adopted less frequently than puppies and younger dogs, and many still have several years left to live and would love to spend their final years in a happy, comfortable home with lots of love. I would love to start an app that has resources and materials, community chat pages, fostering options, adoption options and fundraising for any medical expenses or adoption expenses for senior dogs and pairing them with homes for those who want to foster or adopt these pups and give them their happiest final years.

What’s something inspiring you right now?

I have an English Springer Spaniel named Max, and he’s such a smart dog so I’m always inspired to do some new training with him and get his cute little brain working in the best way it can. It’s so fun to teach a new trick or a new command and see him succeed.

I used to not enjoy cooking at all when I was younger, but over the last several years I’ve learned to really love it! I’m about to attempt making pasta sauce from scratch to carry on some family recipes. I may or may not have watched “The Bear” on Hulu, and now I act like I’m working in a 5-star restaurant and kitchen.

What part of your job brings you the most joy?

I know everyone says this, but the people and the culture at Red Havas brings me joy! It’s not always a guarantee that you will click with your coworkers and feel like part of a community, so when I joined Red Havas in March 2022, I was very excited to feel welcomed and included. And since joining the company over a year ago, I’ve been inspired by my fellow colleagues time and time again!
