Lesley Sillaman at PR Net Future Focus: Attention, Trust and the Future of Influence

This past Friday, HAVAS Red U.S. Managing Director Lesley Sillaman took the stage at The PR Net’s Future Focus in New York City — joining a lineup of senior industry leaders for the conference’s fourth annual edition. Held at Quorum by Convene, the one-day summit brought together 300+ executives from top brands and agencies to explore the forces reshaping media, marketing and communications.

Lesley participated in the summit’s “State of PR” panel, speaking alongside an esteemed group of peers with TJ Kiely moderating. Here are the key takeaways she brought back.

PR has entered a new era, and it’s not just about AI

The single biggest shift in PR right now isn’t any one technology. It’s the convergence of fragmented attention, declining traditional media and rising expectations for authenticity. As Lesley put it, PR today is about earning belief across a distributed ecosystem — spanning media, creators, employees, communities and owned channels, often all at once. The job has fundamentally evolved from generating coverage to managing attention and trust.

Media relations is now influence orchestration

The way PR teams think about relationships needs to evolve. Journalists are increasingly operating as individual brands. Creators bring deep niche credibility. Employees are becoming authentic amplifiers. And owned channels now function as full media platforms in their own right. That means PR teams must think beyond the pitch — managing a whole web of relationships and influence touchpoints.

The teams that will win are both data-driven and human-led

Looking ahead, Lesley sees the highest-performing PR teams as those that combine AI fluency with strong human governance — using data to actively guide brand-building, while taking an integrated view of influence that spans media, creators, employees, and communities. The differentiator won’t be the tools. It’ll be judgment.

Congratulations to Lesley on a fantastic panel, and thank you to The PR Net for continuing to build one of the industry’s most forward-thinking stages.
